Exchange Server Backup
ACC Data Vault's comprehensive approach to backup management now
allows you to execute your Exchange Server backups right down to
the 'Mailbox level'.
ACC Data Vault supports Exchange Server backups for Exchange
Server 2000 with Service Pack 3 / Exchange Server 2003 / Exchange
Server 2007.
PLEASE NOTE: ACC Data Vault can backup only up to Group level
in 2007 Exchange Server (64 bit) machines. ACC Data Vault doesn't
support backing up Mailboxes in 2007 Exchange Sever (64 bit).
You can choose between the Basic or Advanced Exchange Server Plug-in
in ACC Data Vault. The Basic plug-in for Exchange Server backup
is provided with your ACC Data Vault installation at no extra charge
and uses the NTBackup utility to dump Storage Group data. The Advanced
(Plug-in) Exchange Server backup uses the ESE API to backup Storage
Groups and Mail Stores.
Incremental features in the Advanced plug-in include:
- Optimal use of dump files for local storage: the dump file
is compressed and automatically purged after use (In Basic plug-in,
the dump file will be maintained locally in the client machine
for further differential log backups)
- Support for Storage Group level and Mail Store Level backup
- Straight through Restore of Exchange Server backup (as opposed
to a 2 step process in Basic plug-in)
- Comprehensive Backup & Restore report of Exchange Server backup
is available
- Detailed Exchange Server Backup & Restore email reports available
System State / Active Directory Backup
System State / Active Directory backups in ACC Data Vault are treated
like any other data backup. ACC Data Vault's 1-Click selection of
preset backups now includes the system state / active directory
allowing you to simply select it with 1-Click.
This is in line with ACC Data Vault's comprehensive approach
to backup management wherein you can execute all your backups
& restores from one familiar interface. No longer will IT managers
require an array of application specific backup tools, especially
since ACC Data Vault additionally supports Exchange Server backups,
SQL Server backups and MySQL backups in Linux as well.
SQL Server Backup
ACC Data Vault's comprehensive approach to backup management now
allows you to execute your SQL Server backups & restores from one
intuitive interface.
ACC Data Vault supports SQL Server backups for SQL Server 2000 and
all higher versions.
You can choose between a Basic (free) & an Advanced SQL Server Plug-in.
The Basic Plug-in uses the OSQL utility to dump the database(s)
and thereafter uploads the locally dumped file to the backup server.
The Advanced SQL Server plug-in uses the VDI API to backup database(s)
before uploading them to the backup server.
Incremental features in the Advanced plug-in include:
- Optimal use of dump files for local storage: the dump file
is compressed and automatically purged after use.
- Straight through Restore of SQL Server backup (as opposed to
a 2 step process in Basic plug-in)
- Comprehensive Backup & Restore report of SQL Server backup is
available
- Detailed SQL Server Backup & Restore email reports available
Please note that the Basic plug-in is integrated with the product and is available at no additional cost.
Outlook & Outlook Express Backup
If you 'live in Outlook' and use it for your emails, notes, scheduling,
and more, then an Outlook backup is probably the first backup schedule
you ought to get ACC Data Vault to do.
To create a schedule to backup your Outlook / Outlook Express data,
simply select the Outlook (or Outlook Express) shortcut in the hot
links ACC Data Vault automatically displays in its directory tree.
ACC Data Vault takes care of the rest. It collects all the required
files and folders that the backup needs and spares you the unnecessary
details.
However, if Outlook is open at the time ACC Data Vault attempts
a backup, ACC Data Vault, by itself, will not be able to access
all files required for backup as Outlook typically locks up the
pst file. If you're using Windows XP or Vista, ACC Data Vault can
easily use the installed Volume Shadow Copy service to execute your
Outlook backups. If you're using an earlier version of Windows,
you could simply allow ACC Data Vault to automatically close Outlook
when doing an Outlook backup (ACC Data Vault will also automatically
reopen Outlook once the backup is completed).
Please note that Outlook Express backups don't have this issue
(exclusive locking of open files) as Outlook Express allows
ACC Data Vault to access the required files during backup.
MySQL Backup
MySQL is clearly one of the more popular databases today! ACC Data
Vault's comprehensive approach to backup management now allows you
to execute your MySQL backups & restores from one familiar interface.
Intelli Delta Technology for Incremental Backups
The
ability to intelligently handle incremental data is a key component
of any backup solution! Especially since this has huge implications
on performance and infrastructural and operational costs- bandwidth
and storage costs being the most crucial of these!
Our Intelli-Delta technology, based on the powerful & proven
RSYNC algorithm, ensures that after the first 'seed' backup, only
'optimized byte level' changes in individual files & folders are
backed up thereafter. Most backup software implement incremental
backups in fixed block sizes (eg. 4K blocks). In effect, they divide
files into blocks of a pre decided size, examine CHECKSUMS of blocks
that are detected to have changed and retransmit the changed blocks!
ACC Data Vault's Intelli-Delta technology goes one, actually,
two steps further. ACC Data Vault does not implement pre decided
block sizes as this is often sub-optimal. For a small file, the
block size may be too large and hence translate to a larger amount
of data being sent than what's required. For very large files, a
small block size translates to performance degradation. ACC Data
Vault decides on individually optimal block sizes for every single
file after taking into account the original file size. This ensures
that for each file, changes are examined at an 'optimized byte level'.
Additionally, ACC Data Vault also leverages RSYNC's powerful ROLLING
CHECKSUM feature - going one more step ahead of conventional approaches
to incremental backups.
